“Training this summer was great and very effective. I only had 3 weeks left in Colorado and Herzog managed to put together a program that was perfect for me. I liked how we worked on my explosiveness and power. I also think that the ’up tempo’ workout with short rests in between the different sets are really important for hockey players to focus on. Overall the workouts were intense with a lot of different exercises that made the workout fun, but at the same time it was hard work and I got the results that I wanted. Red rocks workout was awesome!”

“I am a hockey goaltender, so over the years I have worked with many different trainers. I can honestly say that without a doubt Ryan is the best I have ever worked with. My position is very unique and requires a very different training regimen. Ryan devised a unique workout progression tailored exactly to the needs of a goalie. His programs went way beyond any others I have tried. Not only did I build strength, but while working with Ryan I improved in other very important aspects of the game that most trainers miss, such as balance, foot speed, position-specific conditioning, hand-eye coordination, and even nutrition. But what is most unique about Ryan is his personality. He is truly a great guy and has become a great friend of mine. I recommend him to anyone that will listen, and even got my own sister working with him. The results that both my sister and I have seen have been just amazing.”

“Working with Ryan Herzog has been a great experience for me. I was introduced to Herzog by a good friend and my roommate who started working with him in the summer. I thought the trainer I worked with was already good but after making the adjustment to Ryan there was no comparison. The first day I went, I am not going to lie I was a little rusty and not up to par with what he was having me do. I kept working at it and never quit but only because Ryan kept pushing me. He never once gave up on me or shifted his focus somewhere else. The impression that he showed me was that he wanted to help me get better and he would do anything to help as long as I cooperate.

“You know that when you show up to train you are there to work and he is there to make you better and to give you what you are looking for. My main goal when I started working with Herzog was for him to help me become the best hockey player I could be. I didn’t really know him but all I know is that I was pretty lucky that I started working with him. When summer was over I headed back to school to prove my self and physically show that I was ready and I worked hard in the summer. Working with Herzog in the summer had a huge impact on me as a hockey player, and I owe all my success from the season to him. He helped me with my speed, agility, power, strength, endurance, flexibility, my mental attitude and ability to always work hard. I always think from working with Herzog to consistently work hard and never give up. He always pushed me and would help me to reach my goals. Herzog gives you the results that you want and helps you to become a better performer not only in sports but in life.

“I have only known Ryan since last summer and already he is easy to communicate with and always is available. He never blows anyone off and communicates with you so that you know he cares. Yes there were times he would yell and push you to limits you didn’t think you could obtain, but in the end it has made me stronger. He shows us complete respect and hopes that we would give him the same in return. I am looking forward to starting back up when I come home and will continue to work for him, because I trust everything that he does because of where I am at today.”

“I have been playing hockey for 12 years and had just previously played hockey at the 92 year born AAA. This is my story. At the end of the season before last I was about 5'4" and 118 pounds. I was hoping to accelerate my game during the summer off season to become big enough, strong enough, and fast enough to play a year up for the 92 year born AAA team. Of course at my current size and strength, there was little hope of achieving my goal.

“Throughout May and June I attended various camps and workout sessions each adding to my skill but doing little to my size. As July came around and I began playing with and watching the players I would be competing with in tryouts, I started to lose hope of making the team. The size and strength of most of these players was much greater than my own. Then, about the first week of July, I was invited out by friends from my old organization to attend dryland training with a trainer named Ryan Herzog to prepare for the upcoming tryouts. I thought why not, anything to improve my size and strength would be worth it to prepare me for any team I played for the next year. I left that first dryland more sore than I had been in my life. However, the drills that I thought were extremely difficult were far from it in Ryan's eyes. In one month before tryouts I gained 10 lbs. after growing only about a half inch. I was in the best shape of my life... or so I thought. But what I didn't know is that despite my already colossal improvements my size, strength, and endurance they would continue to grow.

“The last weekend in July I made the team i had only the slightest chance in making, and it has changed my life completely. After making the team the workouts with Ryan only continued to get harder and harder. As the season went on I gained another 7 pounds. I am now about 5'5" 135 lbs. I had never been pushed so hard in my life and never had I improved so much in such little time. During workout sessions Ryan will make Satan seem like a teddy bear. But outside of workouts he is the one of the coolest guys I know. It is almost as if he is an old friend that just left for college. But his attitude only partly shows the vast knowledge of personal training that he has. Our team became stronger than any team that I had been on ever was. Ryan pushed all of us to our max and beyond. His strength and conditioning training helped our team to win the Tier I Regional Championships and take us to the quarter finals of Nationals.

“Ryan has taught me what will most likely turn out to be the most important lesson in my life. How hard you have to push yourself to succeed in life. Not just in sports but in all situations. Spending this one year with Ryan has made me a better player and a better person. The knowledge and lessons he has given me will by far turn out to be the most important in the development of my hockey career.”

“My name is Patrick Yudez and I was on the '92 Thunderbirds Midget Minor AAA hockey team this past season. Ryan Herzog was our trainer and his expertise helped us in every area of the game. We were physically and mentally prepared to handle whatever challenge came our way! Ryan was always professional, personable, and encouraging, yet demanded 100% effort. Her pushed us and made us all perform to our potential. Not only did he help us improve as a team, but I personally feel that I am a better athlete because of Ryan.”

“I have been training with Ryan Herzog for almost a year. Ryan has been the best trainer I have ever had. Every workout there is something different to test our mind and body. He knows his clients very well and fits workouts to fit there specific needs. I have been with a lot of programs that have a one size fits all policy and they generally are not as helpful as Ryan's specific workouts. For three months I was in a cast for a broken shin and I didn't really know what to do about training since I couldn’t put weight on my leg. But Ryan found new and innovative ways to keep me in shape during my injury so when I came back I could hit the ground running. Choosing Ryan as my one on one hockey trainer was the best move of my career.”

“Ryan is the fourth trainer I’ve used during 18 years of coached exercise. I have not worked with anyone else who comes in every day as well prepared to help me meet my fitness goals. He approaches my physical conditioning like a full time job, not just an hourly session.

”After three shoulder and two knee surgeries, I had become very deliberate and tentative in my workouts. When I started working with Ryan, he assessed my limitations and has since worked me past them in a pain free manner. Six months later, I am doing movements that are no longer painful and with a range of motion that my doctors and I never thought would be possible again.

“Since I began training with Ryan, I have lost body fat and have gained muscle. My overall strength and conditioning has greatly improved as documented by the increasing number of reps and/or decreasing time to complete the workouts. My resting heart rate has dropped to 52 bpm. I feel and function better outside the gym, be it in athletic endeavors or in life’s general movements.

”Along with the physical conditioning I have accomplished under Ryan’s direction, my mental outlook has elevated as well. I was the “last person picked in gym class”, but now consider myself an athlete and know that I can do things that were once inconceivable to me. All of this has occurred in a demanding, yet fun environment. Working out with Ryan is a highlight of my day.”

“Training with Ryan Herzog has been a life-changing experience. With his skills and knowledge of fitness, he has pushed me and the members of the Colorado Thunderbirds U16 team to a whole different level that was never imaginable. Working with him 2 days a week helped us so much not only off the ice, but on the ice as well. The workouts transferred directly to our on ice performance, making us the best conditioned team in the country. Each session pushed us to our limits and it made us stronger physically and mentally every single day. He gave us a new mindset that showed that if we work our hardest off the ice, we will be successful on the ice. On a personal note, Ryan has made me a better all around player. He helped me reach my full potential in dryland that helped me become a better hockey player. I really enjoy working with Ryan and I look forward to training with him in the off-season.”

“I worked/trained with Ryan for around 8 months this past year as a part of a hockey team. The things that Ryan taught me through action will stick with me for a very long time. Through our work outs, Ryan pushed each and every one of my teammates physically and mentally. He put us in positions that gave us the opportunity to quit or keep on going and enduring the pain. He would always say things like "Wouldn't it be so easy to quit right now," in order to keep us from quitting. And that was probably the biggest thing I gained from Ryan.

“Along with that, I have noticably changed physically. I am now bigger stronger and faster, and people have noticed that. Sure skating helps with conditioning, but the affect that Ryan’s training had on my body was extreme in comparison, and I thank him very much for that. Finally, I would like to say what a great person Ryan is. He traveled with our team to Salt Lake City, and within that 5 day span, the kids on our team could connect with Ryan more than we could our own coaches sometimes. He was very supportive and a great guy to hang with!”

“My name is Eric Babcook I play for the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I was looking to find a trainer last summer and Ryan’s name was given to me. From the first time I called him I could tell that he was enthusiastic about training and life. I worked with him all last summer. I would not have been ready to play at this high level if it wasn’t for him. Not only is he my trainer he is one of my best friends. You will not find a trainer that cares about his client more than he does. I owe Ryan a lot and I tried to show him how much he means to me by putting his Air force symbol on the back of my helmet. Thank you Ryan for everything you have done for me.”

“Before training with Ryan, I was out of shape. I thought I was as healthy as I could be. After my first workout, I realized this was not true. My vertical has increased 4 inches in 3 months, I can do 61 pushups non-stop, and I am positive and confident in increasing weight for calf raises, power cleans, and dead lifts. As well as strength, my flexibility has improved. After a grueling workout, I always stretch and because of this my back pains have stopped. Thanks to Ryan and his positive strategies, I know I’m the best athlete on the court.

“Before I started working out with Ryan, I always dreaded going to the gym and never saw any changes. After working out with Ryan, I’ve noticed a huge difference in the way I play. I feel a lot stronger, and in a lot better shape. He motivates you in a way that makes you want to work hard. Now, I look forward to going to the gym because I know that what I’m doing is helping my performance. Without Ryan, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I got moved up to the top team in my club and improved my vertical by 4 ½ inches in 3 months! None of that would have been possible without Ryan’s help. Now I am a lot happier and I have a lot more self-confidence.

“Coach Ryan trained my hockey team for the 2008/2009 season. He worked us hard and it really paid off. We made it to the National Championships and Ryan came to see us. I have never been in such great condition, but it wasn't easy. He really understood what we needed. I am going to work with him this off season to get stronger. My hockey team would never have made it as far as we did without him.”

“Training with you was a great experience. You taught me to be a better athlete and also a healthier person. Since I worked with you, I have worked with other trainers and you are by far the best, most knowledgeable, and most enjoyable to work with. You were also very easy to communicate with. I'm very glad I had the chance to work with you and am still hoping you'll come back to the Chicago area so I could work with you again.”

“From a parent's perspective--If I were to grade Ryan's performance during the time he worked with my son on a scale of 1 to 10, my rating would be about 106! Not only did he seem completely knowledgeable as a personal trainer for a talented junior tennis player, he took this responsibility extremely seriously--interfacing with me and other health professionals, related to a spinal stress fracture that Danny had incurred. . Danny's health and well-being were always paramount in Ryan's decision -making about Danny's program. He evoked complete trust and confidence ( and I am an extremely worried and cautious mother!) Additionally, and I cannot overstate this quality, Ryan acted as an invaluable role model and mentor for my son, a young and shy adolescent. Ryan's warmth and unusual ability to connect with and support my son was a life changing experience. Ryan was approachable and "cool" enough to form a positive relationship with Danny, but was also an impeccable adult role model --his morality, discipline , sense of responsibility , and strong character shone through. Ryan was absolutely instrumental in Danny "coming out of his shell" and I am forever indebted to him. We have interacted with numerous teachers, coaches, and trainers in the past many years and none has been as impressive and memorable as Ryan. He is truly 1 in a million!!”

-Jill W., Mother of Danny

“Ryan Herzog transformed me from that guy in the weight room who has no idea what he's doing to one of the strongest and fastest kids on my Junior hockey team. In one summer with Ryan I went from being decently weak to surprising my coaches at my training camp in August. Without Ryan's help I would have no idea what it means to get a GOOD workout and a balanced diet.”
